After the momentum of an exciting opening weekend, the Musicians of The Phoenix Symphony are shocked and heartbroken over the Board of Directors' decision to suspend our 2026-2027 season and to lay off all musicians, effective November 2nd.
Making music at the highest possible level is the life's work of every musician in The Phoenix Symphony. After all, Peter Kjome, President and CEO, called us "the heart of the Symphony" in the press release detailing our seasons impending suspension. At least this, we can agree on.
Sixty-six musicians will lose their income in less than two weeks. This includes musicians who have relocated just month ago to join the Symphony and make Phoenix their home. This includes five married couples who will lose their entire household income in twelve days.
We have dedicated our lives to our craft and want nothing more than to continue to make music for our Phoenix community. Our season may be suspended, but we are not going anywhere.
